FOUNDER'S DAY 2025

It is called Founder's Day, but it is really a week of fun. You won't want to miss the chalk festival and quilt show on the days leading up to the big event. Look for information in the coming months to reserve a square in the chalk festival, or to learn about the quilt festival. The event will have new, exciting items, plus the traditional community favorites. We can't wait to share the fun with you!

QUILT SHOW - Thursday, August 21 - Saturday, August 23
Back for its third year, this quilt show has grown a large following - with attendees from all over the state. All quilts are crafted by residents of Fruit Heights. All skill levels are welcome and encouraged. This is for the love of the art, not for judging or perfection. Look for more information coming soon about showing your quilts at this year's event.

New this year - Given the large number of requests to purchase quilts at the show, the committee has crafted several quilts that will be available through silent auction. Look for more information about the silent auction and the available quilts in the coming weeks.

CHALK FESTIVAL - Friday, August 22 - Saturday, August 23
Back for its third year, the chalk festival is one of the most popular attractions of Founder's Day. In the coming weeks, look for info to register to draw a square. Registration is free, but required to reserve a square and participate. Each year there is an optional theme that artists may choose to follow.

Kevin The Turkey!

HAVE YOU HEARD OF KEVIN?
A few years ago, a unique wild turkey, lovingly named Kevin, adopted Fruit Heights. More importantly, the residents of Fruit Heights adopted Kevin. Instead of hanging out in the many wilderness areas of our city, Kevin wanted to be part of the action. Actually, Kevin stopped the action. Kevin was known to walk right out on Mountain Road, or even US 89, and have a party. Kevin wouldn't budge unless he wanted to. And, he was known to be a bit grumpy at times. He would often peck at cars and bikes as they went by. Or, as drivers would roll down their windows, Kevin was happy to have an up close conversation, debating the weather, the speed limit, or local politics.

Kevin gained quite a fan club. Pictures and sightings of Kevin grew in popularity. He even had an Instagram page where residents could share fun adventures with Kevin. Sadly, Kevin is no longer with us. Much debate surrounds the question: What happened to Kevin? Some believe he met his demise by a wild animal. Some believe, like Elvis, Kevin is still here, just living a more private life.

Whatever the case, Kevin remains a much loved figure. He is honored in the City's Halloween displays each year, and in our annual chalk festival, as well as in our display at the USU Botanical Garden Scarecrow Walk in Kaysville.
